Tony “Shoshyn” Gilmore – Heart on a Trip

“Heart on a Trip” is a new single by Tony “Shoshyn” Gilmore. It took us quite awhile for us to release this song because the first demo was recorded with the late Frank Alstin who wrote many hits for TSOP including “Who can I run to when I need Love” for The Jones Girls and later covered by Xscape. Frank had left me a message in the box of the 2″ master tape stating that this song is definitely a hit. But the note was not discovered until a year after his death. 15 years later the song was sent to entertainment manager Andrea Jackson who responded very quickly and said this song is perfect for Tony Gilmore. A native of Philadelphia “Shoshyn” (pronounced Show Shine) grew up immersed in the rich power of music. Tony became a member of the group “KOOL AND THE GANG” Singing lead and background vocals along side James “JT “Taylor for over ten years. Already a formidable presence in the music industry, Shoshyn has written songs with George Benson, superstar Joe and Clive Davis. “Heart on a Trip” is the song that was tailored just for “Shoshyn”, where he celebrates how love can take your emotions for a front seat roller coaster ride with your arms up in the air while screaming for satisfaction.

Stepp 3 – Online Dancin’

STEPP 3 No one ever thought about doing a line dance using your mobile phone while on “Facebook Live” until now. This new dance craze has a double meaning in the title called Online Dancin’. Written during the middle of a Philadelphia snow storm from a reverie of a Caribbean beach party. The reference demo was sent to a Philadelphia Doo-wop group called “The Orlons”. You may remember them from their back in the day dance hit “The Watusi”. They started recording the song, but due to their busy tour schedule was not able to follow through with the finished product. Phase 5 Records was now left with the idea of being online dancing with your phone and needed to finish the song before someone else thought of this idea. When R&B Music Historian Armando Press heard about this he suggested that we should create a female group and name them Stepp 3. His advice was followed, and a new female group was started, consisting of Maryam Muhammad Jordan From “The Sound of Philadelphia”, Amanda Price from the band “Doug Payne & Polygon”, and Denise Anderson from the band “Soul on Demand” all from Philadelphia Pennsylvania. Doug Payne replaced the original producer and June Payne former member of the “The Three Degrees” coached and produced the recording of the vocals, Grammy Award winning engineer Richard Waller III mixed the single to be released and distributed by CD Baby on Wednesday October 16, 2019. The sites for digital streaming and downloads are I Tunes, amazon, CD Baby, APPLE MUSIC, Google play, Spotify, Shazam, pandora, DEEZER, and many more. For more information contact Phase 5 Records:

There’s a saying in the Harrisburg/ York Pa. area “if you want a seat, you better get there early” for a performance by Carman Bryant and her band Positive Flow. Carman’s new release “Midnight Star” is a remake of her previous unreleased recording that was produced many years ago by Cecil DuValle of the Teddy Pendergrass band. The original studio masters were lost when Cecil moved to England when Teddy stopped performing. Philadelphia producer Wendell Holmes stepped in to produce the song by keeping some of the original ideas. With the help of June Payne formally of the group Three Degrees. June created the new background vocals most definitely TSOP, (The Sound of Philadelphia). Carman and her son Terrell Bryant aka Nakuu both have been busy lately recording new music to hit the scene around the same time. Terrell Bryant is the son of Jason Bryant, who started The SOS Band. PHASE 5 RECORDS was started in the Germantown section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1980 by Douglas Payne shortly after completing the Sister Sledge (We are Family) tour. Similar to Motown this house located in the 5600 block of Baynton Street contains a recording studio. The studio was used by other artist such as Eddie Holman, Richard Waller, Z’hane, Charlie Brown’s Coaster, Frank Alstin, The Dreamlovers and many others to rehearse and demo their music for live performances. The label released several records by Doug Payne & Polygon, Stan Arrington, Steve Byrd, U-Turn & Sam Davis. Each artist controlled the recording and promotion of their music. Douglas felt that eventually artist would own their own labels and control the sales and promotion of their music. With the rise of technology that time is finally here.
